Hello All:
The annual Summer Biathlon in West Yellowstone is tentatively scheduled for 26 June this year and is a Mountain Bike event (bike and shoot). It will likely be a 2-race weekend and I plan to proceed it again with a ~3 day Biathlon clinic. In the past this clinic has been geared towards slightly more experienced competitors but if there is enough interest I would be happy to expand or modify it to be more of an intro program. Please let me know if this is of interest.
Watch my website and www.rendezvousskitrails.com for updates on these and other events.
Best Regards,
Marc

I am also a new CBC member, and have not yet done a race - lots of skating experience, but no biathlon experience at all. Like the other posters, I am a bit unsure about how the whole sport works, and how to prepare for a competition. Would there be any interest in having the people new to the sport get together, or correspond via e-mail, and try to set up some training sessions or informational sessions? Perhaps an experienced biathlete could give us some tips? Not sure how all this would work, of if there is any interest. If I don't make it to a race this season, I hope to do a summer event, and would like to get sorted out for the next ski season, so I would love to have people to train with over the next year.

Stefan, Katie, (and other LCBCN),
Iâm a second-season skier & biathlete. Itâs been great to be connected w/ CBC and the exposure to biathlon. By all means come out to ski at Snow Mt Ranch on Mar 13 and check out our race while youâre there. It sounds like you both may be novice freestyle skiers; I suggest you consider a skate lesson. My experience endorses the conventional wisdom that skate skiing is easy to do but not so easy to do fast and silky; might as well get started from a proper base.
I think biathlon is one of those things that if youâre attracted to it youâre probably going to enjoy it and get a lot out of it. I was attracted to it and encouraged toward it by a couple friends who were already members of the cult. I jumped in with both feet and have never second guessed the decision, even when Iâve felt like hurling (Oops - - should stay positive in front of newbies; did I say that hurling part out loud?).
If you happen to be skiing this Saturday at SMR, I plan on being out there. Iâd be happy to show you the range and a couple of our common racing loops. Let me know.

Hi Katie (and other lurking CBC newcomers),
As I'm sure you know, a safety certification is a strict pre-requisite for racing. But if you're just interested in learning more about the sport, come out and watch a race. Our last race of the season will be held at Snow Mountain Ranch on Saturday March 13. Schedule and details will soon follow (and they will be posted on our web page, www.coloradobiathlon.org). We will always welcome volunteers to help run the events (and there are many positions that can be staffed with little or no actual race experience), but we have lots of cow bells too if you just want to watch and cheer.
For an e-introduction, if you have been assimilated by the Comcast machine, you can watch re-runs of all of the Olympic biathlon races to date on-line at NBC.com (follow the links to the Olympic video section). The reruns include "encore" presentations of the races NBC actually covered with commentary plus full replays of the raw, un-commentated Olympic TV feed (cool to watch, but perhaps less educational). I'd also recommend a visit to www.biathlonworld.com or www.usbiathlon.org.
Finally, if anyone else out there is interested in helping out with our last race, please let me know.
thanks, and hope to see lots of you at the races!
Walter, CBC President

Hey,
I am in the exact same position! A newbie who's been on skis a total of twice, just moved out from the midwest, but am interested in learning more. Any info on how to get started would be appreciated.

Hello,
My name is Stefan, I live in Denver , and I'm completely new to this sport. I am eager to learn and eventually participate in a Biathlon. What would you recommend as a first step to facilitating this goal, I've contacted Elizabeth Pike re: a safety certification clinic but wanted to see if there was anything else I could do, (i.e., attend your next race as a spectator, volunteer etc...)?
Regards,
Stefan
