If you are planning to do either 21k or 42 skate tomorrow, the official word from Snow Mt is that they *BOTH* start at 10 am. Repeat, the 21k skate starts at 10 and *NOT* 10:30 tomorrow. That is the schedule that is posted at packet pickup this afternoon. Please pass the word to other participants. Despite my earlier threats to run a full-distance Individual, I have suffered a moment of weakness and opted to run races that conform to the all-but-homologated US Masters distances of 15km for men and 10km for women (actually, they both flirt with the IBU variance cap of 5% of nominal distance, but who's counting?). As we did last year, we will be circulating contrary to our usual clockwise courses. I've attached maps and range details and we'll review the courses during the racers meeting, but feel free to contact me in the meantime if you have any questions (I'll update everyone with course color information after I coordinate with SMR). Also, a reminder that the shooting sequence in the Individual is Prone, Stand, Prone, Stand with time penalties rather penalty laps assessed for each missed target. In this case, the time penalty will be 45 secs to keep it in rough proportion to the reduced distance while still hewing to the spirit of a more punitive penalty for missed targets. The schedule has been posted on www.coloradobiathlon.org. Note that we will be running only a single zero period for both waves, so please be efficient and considerate of your fellow racers. We will soon have online registration available as well. As always, we strongly encourage pre-registration and, as an added inducement, wave preference will be given to pre-registrants over race-day registrants. Curse this warm weather! and hope to see lots of you next weekend, Walter, CBC President -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... At this time it would be a helpful if you [the BNC member] would individually provide your recommendations to Eldora management through their web site. The BNC board of directors has listed a set of recommendations below that we have communicated to Eldora management, but we encourage you to directly express your ideas as well. The website below will link you directly to Eldora web site to make your comments. http://www.eldora.com/mountain.comment.html Improvement of the Eldora Nordic Trails has been a major priority of the Boulder Nordic Club (600+ members) for many years and acted upon through our volunteer efforts in the fall when club members and Boulder Nordic Juniors members help prepare the trails for the upcoming ski season and BNC promotion of Eldora. Significant improvements have been made through BNC efforts and will continue to be a top priority for both clubs for years to come. Thank you for your support. Mark Flolid, President of Boulder Nordic Club flolid at gmail.com 720 352 7808 Recommended items to be addressed in the proposed Eldora Master Plan Nordic Center Improvements -Double the size of Nordic Center at present location. -Expand toilet facilities. -Expand concession facility for Nordic. -Multiple cash registers relieve payment peak load problem. -Improve snow surface directly outside of Nordic Center (Eldora purchased a snow-gun for this purpose). -Warming hut on trail system. Beginners -Provide more beginner trails -Easier access to trails above 17th Ave. via Ho-Hum Lift, e.g. McCoy Park* Trail Improvements and Maintenance -Initial grading of trails prior to volunteer fall trail maintenance. Thereafter minimal grading on roughly once every 5+ years basis. -Tree and rye grass planting program everywhere snow fence is located and particularly at entrance to Nordic Center. Re-planting trees where beetle-kill has occurred near trails. -Early snowfall packing with snow mobile grooming system until one foot of compacted base before grooming with snowcat.** Control of Summer Access and trail destruction -Stop ATV and motorcycle use of trails. -Post signs at gates clearly notifying violators that the trails are off limits. *I.e., a Nordic trail pass would include use of the Ho-hum Lift. **Industry best practice is to roll with light equipment until approximately one foot of compacted snow base has been achieved--especially in rocky soils--in order to keep the cat's tiller/renovator and paddled treads from churning debris into the snow-base matrix for the duration of the season. --- The board of the Boulder Nordic Club welcomes input on these recommendations and thanks its members for their help in improving Nordic skiing services at one of the most visited Nordic Centers in North America. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This will be very ad hoc, with self target reset, honor system penalty loops, self timing. We'll start the slower skiers off first with a variable handicap time advantage, determined from previous races or self seeding. YOU MUST HAVE A RED BOOK TO PARTICIPATE. TIME: 10AM-2PM RACE: short distance, handicapped start times with lots of shooting (4 bouts, maybe with LeMans start). Zero at about 11 AM, race at about 12 Noon. Non racers welcome to spectate / score / pull / time / cheer(flags and cowbells). RIFLES: The rental rifles will be available $5 per person (even if you share a rifle) and ammo $5 per box. RSVP: reply to this email if you need a rifle, by 9AM tomorrow. We would also like to know if you plan to come even if you have your own gear. We only have about 5 rifles. You may have to share. NORDIC PASS: buy one. SKIS/BOOTS/POLES: they rent them at the Nordic center. If you'd like to beat traffic and come early you can help or practice some at the range.
